The space
-80 square-meter villa
-AC and fans
-1 king-sized bed & 1 queen-sized bed
-Satelital internet:
At this part of Costa Rica there is no optical cable internet service. We have a satelital internet, which is, as far as we are aware, the best option available at this area. It is usually working very good, but if the sky are very cloudy (usually during heavy rain storms), the internet can become slow or even disappear for a while, until the heavy clouds move away.
We do have a battery back-up for powering the internet, so in case electricity is falling down (it happens every once in a while when a tree fall on the electricity cables), we can power for you the internet through the back-up battery and you can have a normal internet service, even if electricity is off.
-Hot water in the regular shower
-Outdoor shower (without hot water)
-Equipped Kitchen
-Purified water with double purification system:
There is no state-water-system at this area of Costa Rica. Our water arrive from a 9 meters well that captures clean underground water within our property. The water in all the taps at Casa Bromelia pass through 2 filters before they arrive the house: sediment & active carbon filters. Still- since some contamination may exist inside the water tubes between the filters and the taps, we provide an additional purification system inside the house with its own special water tap that eliminate all viruses, parasites and bacterias.
-Spacious balcony
-Car parking
-Hammocks at the garden
-Ocean view, located about 1 minute walk from the beach
-Access to the entire Eden Corcovado property
-Optional laundry service at additional cost
Location & nearby wildlife
Eden Corcovado is located at Osa Peninsula at south-west Costa Rica, Bahia Drake. We are literally located at the end of the road, being one of the most remote and untouched placed that one can visit in Costa Rica.
Casa Bromelia is about a 100m from one of the most beautiful and least known beaches in Costa Rica. The adjacent rainforest continues all the way to the nearby Corcovado National Park, that was described by National Geographic as “one of the most biologically intense areas in the world". While you should definitely try and visit the Corcovado National Park, you can actually see most of the wildlife that exist in the park in the adjacent rainforest and even within Eden Corcovado property! This includes animals such as the Tapir, Tayra, Tamandua, Coati, 3 monkey species, Scarlet Macaws, Toucans, Hummingbirds and many other bird, amphibian, reptile and insect species. Even the Puma is spotted occasionally in the nearby rainforest!
There is also a nice marine fauna that includes Humpback Whales that reproduce in the nearby water (beginning of August to end of October), Dolphins are common residents that you are likely to encounter if you take a tour to Isla del Caño and Sea Turtles arrive to lay eggs in the beach in front of Eden Corcovado.
Environmental-friendly:
We do an extra effort to co-exist in a harmony with nature:
-
Reforestation: We dedicate one hectare out of the three hectares property for reforestation- to recover the forest and provide home to so many animals that live in this complex ecosystem.
-
Protecting birds: The glass windows at Casa Bromelia have special hanging mobiles ahead of them that help prevent birds colliding with the glass.
-
Sea Turtles: Female Sea Turtles arrive to lay eggs in the beach in front of Eden Corcovado. For this reason we built Casa Bromelia at a distance of about 100m from the beach, and we use orange soft lights in the balcony, so the Sea Turtle females can arrive to the beach at night without any disturbance from our side.
-
Gray water: The water from the shower and kitchen flows to a nearby vegetation; we use only environmental-friendly detergents, soaps & shampoos that do not harm the plants and the environment. If you wish to bring your own soap/ shampoo - please bring only environmental-friendly items.
-
Sewage: We use the best (and more expensive) option that is available here to treat sewage: the water from the toilet goes to an underground tank that its design is approved by the Costa Rica Ministry of the Environment as the best underground tank to treat sewage water. Bacterias in the tank help to decompose the organic material (we do not use chlorine in the toilet, to protect the bacterias), the water that goes out of the tank into the underground is already clean, and still receive additional cleaning by plants that grows above it and absorb the rests of any organic material.
-
Organic fruits: We do not use any chemicals in Eden Corcovado, we let nature do its own work. We are happy to share all our fruits with the animals, there is enough for everyone :)
How to arrive to Eden Corcovado:
-
By air: SANSA Airlines offer daily 50 minutes flights from San José domestic airport to Bahía Drake airport. The frequency and schedule of flights varies according to the touristic season, you can check details at SANSA website. From Bahia Drake airport you can take a taxi to Eden Corcovado; if you wish we can arrange a taxi that will wait for you at the Bahia Drake airport.
-
By boat: There is a daily boat service from Sierpe dock towards Bahia Drake beaches, including Eden corcovado. The boat usually leaves twice a day from Sierpe, at 11:00 and 16:00. The boat trip last about 1.5 hours and the boat will drop you down at the beach just in front of Eden Corcovado :) It is recommended to confirm the up-to-date schedule and reserve a ticket before you arrive, we can help with this procedure. If you arrive with your own car to Sierpe, there is a paid parking in Las Vegas restaurant, near the Sierpe dock.
-
By car: A dirt 4x4 road exist all the way to Eden Corcovado, we are located at the end of this road :) If you come by car drive towards Puerto Jimenez, at the junction after the small community of Rincon de Osa (appears as "Cruce Bahia Drake" at Google Maps) take the dirt road that goes towards the west, from this point it is about 40km to Eden Corcovado. At the final sections of the road you need to cross two streams, during the dry season the water level is usually not higher than 40cm and it shouldn't be a problem to cross them with a high 4x4 car. In the rainy season (May to October) and especially during September and October, the water level in the streams might be too high, so during these two months we do not recommend to arrive by car. Please note that since we are located at the rainforest, heavy rains can occur at any time of the year, but it is quite rare that the streams are unappeasable for more than a short time beside September and October.
Please note: We recommend to use Waze over Google Maps to navigate to Eden Corcovado, since Waze shows the correct route that do not pass through "El Progresso" community.
Google Maps often shows a longer and more complicated route, where you will have to cross the Drake River by car, near "El Progresso" community - it is completely unnecessary. If you prefer to use Google Maps, please CLICK HERE to access the recommended route to Eden Corcovado.
